Saudi Arabia to export electricity to neighboring countries after completing grid connectivity

Saudi Arabia will start exporting electricity to neighboring countries after completing the connectivity of power grids, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy, told Argaam in an exclusive.

“Following the announcement of launching Sakaka IPP photovoltaic (PV) solar project, projects are ongoing in the Kingdom to connect power grids with Jordan, Egypt, Iraq and the GCC,” Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman said.

For expansions in the renewable energy projects, the Saudi minister said seven projects were unveiled. One project will be announced every year.

Meanwhile, Prince Abdul Aziz bin Salman affirmed that King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman are closely monitoring the energy sector and are keen to implement projects on time with great incentives and targets.

He added that most projects will focus on solar power, while wind projects will be few and limited. The cost of electricity is the key determinant.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced on April 8, 2021, the inauguration of Sakaka IPP PV and the signing of power purchase agreements (PPA) for seven new projects, Argaam reported.
