Saudi Arabia inks MoU with Jordan for electricity grid connection project

Saudi Arabia and Jordan signed today a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the electricity grid connection project.

Saudi energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud said that the project is part of the Kingdom’s electrical interconnection plans and falls in-line with the goals of Vision 2030, focusing on investing in the strategic location and its nature in the domestic electrical network.

The MoU came as a result of a detailed and comprehensive study by both the countries, the minister added, indicating that there are promising opportunities from the project to support the reliability of the electrical networks, achieve economic savings, enhance the achievement of the optimal mix of electricity production, accommodate for electrical networks, enter renewable energy, and achieve optimal investments in electricity generation projects.

Prince Abdulaziz also clarified that within the framework of this study, several options for the electrical connection path between the two countries were identified by adopting the technical, operational, economic, environmental and organizational foundations.

He indicated that the best option is the link between Qurayyat and East Amman with an approximate length of 164 kilometers.

Meanwhile, the energy minister emphasized that Saudi Arabia has ambitious plans to become one of the main countries in the field of producing and exporting electricity, using renewable energy, when the necessary infrastructure and economic value are completed.
