Saudi Aramco expects Marjan oilfield to boost gas output by 16%

State-owned Saudi Aramco’s Marjan offshore field is likely to boost the company’s gas production by 16 percent, Ahmed Al-Sa’adi, Senior Vice President of Technical Services, told Al-Arabiya TV.

The contracts, awarded on July 9, will be valid until April 2023.  

“The oilfield development comes as part of Saudi Aramco’s gas expansions locally and overseas,” Al-Sa’adi said, adding that “the oil producer is planning to begin operations at Al-Fadhili gas plant this year.”

For Red Sea projects, Saudi Aramco has also finalized the development of Midyan oilfield in the north of Duba. The new gas plant produces nearly 75 million cubic feet of gas per day.

In addition, large quantities of gas have been discovered in the Red Sea as part of the company’s discovery program. “The company is working on other development programs,” Al-Sa’adi said. 

“Saudi Aramco is mulling various options to expand gas projects overseas driven by its strong experience in this field,” he added.

Saudi Aramco yesterday awarded 34 contracts worth $18 billion for the engineering, procurement and construction of the Marjan and Berri increment programs.
