Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Audiovisual Media has awarded the Kingdom's third license for operating cinema theatres to Al-Rashed Empire Cinema Consortium, state-owned Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The consortium joins US firm AMC Entertainment and UAE's Majid Al Futtaim’s Vox Cinemas, who have opened theatres this year after the government lifted a 35-year ban on cinemas in December 2017.
Al-Rashed Empire Cinema Consortium plans to build 30 cinemas in various cities of the Kingdom in the coming three years, SPA said.
Saudi authorities are expecting the opening of around 350 cinemas with over 2,500 screens by 2030 for a domestic audience of over 32 million.
