Saudi minister: Egyptian workers at Binladin Group to get rights

13/03/2016 Argaam

Saudi labor minister Mufrej Al-Haqbani has assured that the rights of Egyptian workers employed by Saudi Binladin Group (SGB) will be protected, Okaz newspaper has reported.

Al-Haqbani's comments came during a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Gamal Souror at the Arab Labor Organization's session held in Sharm El-Sheikh.

Egyptian workers who had been laid off by the contractor have the right to work for another empoyer or arrange for overdue wages to be paid to an authorized recipient if the worker plans to relocate back to Egypt, Al-Haqbani said.

Thousands of workers recently protested outside SBG's headquarters in Jeddah after they had not been paid for 4 months, local media reports revealed. The protests led the kingdom's labor ministry to reach an agreement with SBG over the due payments.
